It"s Time to Learn Guitar Tab

Congratulations! You have succeeded in learning the basics of guitar. Now it’s time to learn guitar tab. Don’t let that scare you; I’m sure you’ll be able to pick this up very quickly.

A guitar tab will show six lines running horizontally, which represents the six strings found on your guitar. It is arranged as EBGDAE from the top to bottom. This means that the first E is the thickest string on your guitar and the next E would be the thinnest.

You’ll also find numbers drawn across the lines. The numbers represent the frets where the sound will be played. If you see number 2 on the top horizontal line that means that you have to put pressure on that string on the second fret. When you see the number “0″, that indicates an open chord, which means you don’t have to play it.

Start practicing by picking one string at a time. For example, if the tab shows the number “0″ on the 1st, 2nd and 6th strings and the number “2″ on the 3rd, 4th and 5th that would be the A chord. Pick each string first before trying all of them at once with your fingers pressing on strings number 3, 4 and five on the 2nd fret.

Move on to the next chord and repeat the same process. Wait until you have done each chord well before moving on. You’ll eventually learn relatively complex tabs but if you start with the basics and the easy ones, there will be a much smoother transition so you won’t feel too much pressure all at once.

See? Now, not only can you the guitar, but you were also able to learn guitar tab. Just keep practicing to become an expert. Soon it’ll become second nature to you.
