Hosting Reviews - Who Reviews the Reviewers?

Shared server hosting or website hosting is a major industry and a very competitive market. Therefore anyone reviewing hosting companies should in theory take it seriously, would you agree with me there?

Yet there is a whole industry online where the review is a marketing ploy, a tactic to increase sales rather than a true review, that gives you the buyer a reasoned and honest opinion! on which actually is the best hosting company.

You must review the reviewers

You the site visitor are potentially going to make a decision based on the information presented in a review. But how do you know the review is worth the pixels it is written with? This article was totally unplanned it came about when I was presented with a guru promoting review site templates and the novel idea of telling people of a problem with a product or service to generate trust and then say why it is still better than the competing product or service, what a concept!

That’s a review isn’t it? Apparently not, considering they all reach the same conclusion, so buyer beware or as they said in ancient Rome “Caveat Emptor” is as true today as it was then.

If you see a series of reviews that look remarkably similar and not necessarily only on hosting draw your own conclusions.

What to look for in a good review! And here I can only cover hosting… Is it the usual suspects over and over again? That’s a good sign of a formula as opposed to a genuine review. Does the review cover some of the companies that specialize in only word press blog hosting, that only promote via word of mouth and electronic recommendation and not affiliate commissions.  Due to the fact they have a non commercial bias and are more community based with strong charitable elements.

Their inclusion would give a review balance and speaking personally I would be more inclined to give credence to the reviewer. How old is the originating site? Not always a good indicator as someone could have bought an expired domain that has Internet age but not pedigree, but it is a factor that can be researched, again I’m getting a bit carried away that happens when I write my inner Charles Dickens starts getting ideas! The real key is due diligence and your own common sense and good instinct! So take a bit of time and review the reviewer! And please excuse any historical errors in this article concerning the Apaches. Remember reviews are not the only way to chose a good web host word of mouth works well in this industry too! And who do the gurus use! That’s bound to be a reliable one!
